Solution: Abrasive anti slip tape for improved grip

You don't have to wait for a slip to start thinking about slip prevention.

At Padel Now, Meerendal Estate, the team took a preventative approach to a staircase used to access the venue. The covered staircase is still exposed to the elements, and its relatively smooth surface presented an opportunity to add extra grip underfoot.

Rather than jumping straight to a major alteration or replacement, Padel Now needed a practical solution that worked with the existing stairs.

That's where COBA came in.

The Right Solution, Not the Biggest One

Every staircase is different, and the right anti slip solution needs to suit the surface, application and budget.

After considering Padel Now's requirements, the COBA sales team specified Gripfoot Conformable anti slip tape as a practical fit for the existing staircase.

Gripfoot Conformable has an abrasive surface designed to improve grip, with a self-adhesive foiled backing that can be rolled or hammered into shape on irregular surfaces.

For an existing staircase, that meant additional grip could be introduced without turning a relatively straightforward safety improvement into a major refurb.

Anti Slip Tape for Stairs – Without the Big Refurb

Black Gripfoot Conformable strips were applied across the stair treads, creating an abrasive surface underfoot while retaining the existing staircase.

The dark strips also provide a clear visual contrast against the lighter stair surface, helping to define the edge of each step.

It's a small intervention, but that's rather the point.

Good safety decisions don't always have to involve big changes. Sometimes it's about spotting an opportunity to reduce risk before it becomes a problem and finding a solution that makes sense for the environment.

Safety Doesn't Start on the Court

At a padel venue, it's easy to focus on what happens between the glass walls. But the customer journey starts well before anyone picks up a racket.

Entrances, walkways, stairs and viewing areas all form part of how players, visitors and staff move through a facility.

At Padel Now, the staircase upgrade is one example of how preventative thinking can improve grip in a high-use access area without unnecessarily replacing the existing surface.

And in the Cape, where an otherwise sheltered access route can still be exposed to the elements, thinking about grip before the weather turns is simply good planning.
