In vegetable processing, the product keeps moving.
So do the people.
But at some workstations, employees can spend long periods working in the same place. For the team at CAMPJOYMA, a vegetable-processing facility in Spain, that was becoming a problem.
Employees were experiencing back discomfort and fatigue associated with prolonged standing, affecting their comfort during shifts and, according to CAMPJOYMA, having a wider impact on productivity and absence.
The challenge wasn't simply to put a mat on the floor.
It was to find a solution that could provide greater comfort for employees while still meeting the durability and safety demands of an industrial production environment.
The Problem: When Standing Becomes Part of the Job
Prolonged standing was a normal part of the working day for employees at several CAMPJOYMA workstations.
Over time, employees reported back pain and fatigue. CAMPJOYMA wanted to improve working conditions without introducing a solution that would struggle with the demands of the production environment.
That meant looking beyond comfort alone.
The right solution needed to combine anti-fatigue properties with the durability, stability and practical safety features required on a busy factory floor.
The Solution: Start With the Workplace, Not the Product
Rather than simply recommending a mat from a catalogue, COBA Spain worked through its distributor, Hiservis SL, to understand what was happening at CAMPJOYMA's workstations first.
Omid Abadi, Sales Account Manager at COBA Spain, joined Hiservis SL on site visits to assess the working conditions and understand the challenges employees were experiencing.
This collaborative approach allowed the team to recommend a solution based on the application rather than the product alone.
Following the assessment, Deckplate® anti-fatigue matting was selected for the affected workstations.
Its dual-layer construction combines cushioning with a durable upper surface, making it suitable for demanding industrial workstations where employees spend extended periods standing.
Deckplate® also offered practical features relevant to the environment, including bevelled edges and the option of high-visibility yellow borders. Its upper surface is tested to BS EN 13501-1 and offers resistance to many industrial chemicals.
Once the appropriate solution had been identified, Hiservis SL installed the matting with minimal disruption to CAMPJOYMA's operations.
The Result: A Small Change Underfoot With a Wider Impact
The change happened at floor level, but CAMPJOYMA reported benefits that went beyond the mat itself.
Following installation, employees reported noticeably less back discomfort and fatigue, improving comfort while working at their stations.
CAMPJOYMA also reported improved employee performance as discomfort reduced, while the high-visibility and bevelled edges helped support a safer working environment around the workstations.
For CAMPJOYMA, addressing prolonged standing wasn't about making a dramatic change to the production process.
It was about recognising an everyday problem that had become part of the working environment — and finding a practical way to address it.
The Right Solution Starts With Understanding the Problem
The CAMPJOYMA project demonstrates why workplace matting shouldn't begin with the question:
“Which mat should we buy?”
A better question is:
“What is happening at this workstation, and what do the people working here need?”
By combining CAMPJOYMA's understanding of its workforce, Hiservis SL's customer relationship and COBA Spain's matting expertise, the team was able to identify a solution suited to the actual working environment.
