Siemens Energy: Building a Stronger, Safer Foundation with Interlocking Anti-Fatigue Flooring
In fast-paced production environments, the floor rarely gets the credit it deserves. Yet it’s the one element every operator relies on — hour after hour, shift after shift. At Siemens Energy’s Lincoln site, the team recognised that standing fatigue, worn flooring, and uneven surfaces were quietly disrupting efficiency and comfort. A workspace built on individual mats could only go so far. It was time for the floor to support people as much as they support the work.
The Challenge: A Patchwork Floor That Couldn’t Keep Up
Operators were spending long periods on their feet, moving between heavy machinery, tooling stations, and wheeled equipment. The existing setup used individual COBAmat® sections — practical as a short-term standing mat solution, but not designed to perform as a cohesive system.
Over time, these standalone anti-fatigue mats created small gaps and transitions that interrupted the smooth movement of trolleys and made it harder for operators to maintain consistent posture. This inconsistency led to discomfort, inefficient workflows, and a surface that simply didn’t match the demands of a high-output manufacturing space.
The Siemens Energy team needed flooring that could do multiple jobs at once:
- deliver reliable anti-fatigue support
- create a continuous, level surface for wheeled traffic
- withstand coolant and chemical exposure
- improve slip resistance
- reduce trip hazards
- and enhance the overall safety and professionalism of the workspace
In short, they needed a smarter, integrated anti-fatigue flooring solution — not another temporary fix.
The Solution: A Seamless Interlocking System, Designed with Care

Partnering with trusted distributor Rubix, COBA Account Manager Max Proudlock developed a tailored flooring layout built around a robust combination of interlocking anti-fatigue tiles. Each element was selected to solve a specific challenge identified on-site.
Fatigue-Step® Solid provided a strong, level surface that allowed trolleys and machinery to glide smoothly, eliminating the “stepping on and off” issue caused by individual mats.
Fatigue-Step® Grit Top, made with oil-resistant nitrile and a high-grip surface, was installed around areas exposed to coolants and chemicals — providing both comfort and anti-slip protection.
High-visibility aluminium ramped edging gave the installation a permanent, professional finish, reducing trip risks and clearly defining walkways.

Because the system uses interlocking tiles, it functions as one continuous standing mat platform rather than multiple disconnected mats. COBA’s in-house team installed the entire solution in just two days with minimal disruption — reflecting COBA’s ongoing commitment to care, adaptability, and operational efficiency.
The Result: Less Fatigue, More Flow, and a Safer, More Confident Team
The impact was immediate. Operators reported reduced fatigue and noticeable improvements in posture and comfort. Wheeled traffic moved effortlessly across the continuous surface, and the workspace felt cleaner, safer, and more cohesive.
The new interlocking anti-fatigue flooring not only improved wellbeing but also enhanced daily workflow — a clear example of how thoughtful ergonomic design can unlock performance from the ground up.
“It’s a great example of collaboration between COBA, Rubix, and Siemens Energy — working together to create safer, smarter spaces from the ground up.”
— Max Proudlock, COBA Account Manager
